What’s Wrong with Brangelina?

  • As Shafer clearly illustrated, stations are in the business of making money and will go after the programming with the highest ratings. And TV news programs air "car crashes, shootings and Brangelina" because those topics generate the highest ratings amongst viewers. So following that logic, tightening the media ownership rules would result in more stations airing more car crashes, shootings and Brangelina. Not quite what I think the folks over at Free Press have in mind. And in the spirit of full disclosure, I do some consulting work with the NAB.
  • Free Press is one of George Soros' hobbies, and the principal organization in Save the Internet alongside Moveon.org, another Soros-supported endeavor. Media need to diversify in order to make money these days, and by fighting diversification Free Press protects shady businessmen from media scrutiny.

    Do the math.
  • I think we should just abolish democracy and citizens participation in society and leave all the big decisions to the Board of Directors. What do yall say?
Free Press is trying to protect our right to have access to our media and not to let the little remaining fall into the wealthy pockets of a handful of conglomerates. I am pro business but do the few have to own everything? As far as ClearChannel bringing diversity to Minot, I'm glad to hear they brought new music to the area. They should have brought the Emergency Broadcast they were responsible for playing during the train wreck tragedy that occured there. Why don't people stop smearing non-profits and have some admiration for people fighting for our interests.
  • Dezolitzol, your Minot argument doesn't hold water and is more myth/urban legend than fact. The facts have been misrepresented to solely to advance an agenda.

Don't take my word for it, read for yourself.
