But I don't see the quantitatively argument in at least the data you present.

2007: 6500 deaths from 16-20 year-olds from driving. Let's wildly guess that there are 18 million Americans at that age through some back-of-envelop calculations. Then we're talking about fatality rate of 0.036%.

Two out of 1500 victimized? 0.13%

Their fears don't look so ridiculous anymore, at least with those numbers.

Re: What’s More Dangerous: The Internet or Drunk Drivers?

Hopefully as my generation (I'm 19) moves into positions of influence, misconceptions like this will be cleared up.

Re: What’s More Dangerous: The Internet or Drunk Drivers?

I think with the way that a lot of parents view teen sexuality today, they wouldn't draw much of a distinction between adults and other teens. When I was a teen, I remembered meeting quite a few adults who considered a 18 year old trying to have sex with a 15 year old to be in the same league as a much older person trying the same thing simply because the 18 year old had been magically declared an adult by the law (even though they can't legally drink a beer).

Still, as a matter of defending the truth, maybe we can undo this lie by repeating the truth enough that people start hearing it more than the lie. Maybe the opposite of the Great Lie will work; if we repeat the truth enough, people will believe it.

Re: What’s More Dangerous: The Internet or Drunk Drivers?

just goes to show that even when confronted with facts, they are stupid. wake up and engage your brain and make a decisions like a rational human being. i realize that's difficult for you, but maybe you can take classes and learn.
