So: I would agree to having them be able to "Turn Off" specific channels and probably have shows V-Chip rated so that they could limit the level of the shows.
If a person un-subscribes to a channel because it does not carry the material they want, or does not V-Chip their programs, then this information should be sent to the channel so that they can determine if they are loosing viewers...
Get government involved as little as possible, but use technology to allow people to contron their own destiny.

The assumption within our society that any of this is damaging is one without basis. A good analogy is found by taking a look at some of the attitudes and beliefs of muslim cultures. How silly is it for a woman to be forced to dress up like a beekeeper when going out in public? What about honor killings, where a woman is murdered by her own family because she was raped in order to restore "honor" to the family. There are some muslims who actually believe that if they were to touch a pig, or any product derived from pigs, that they would be sent straight to hell after they die.
These notions are naturally quite disturbing because they are a denial of the truth. That is exactly how I see our society's attitudes towards "explicit" content. When I was growing up I used to think that my parents and other adults were trying to con me when they would throw a hissy fit about me watching something on cable. Their concerns were so obviously unfounded that I assumed their concern was really just thinly veiled malice. It never occurred to me until I was well into adulthood that so many people could, through the power of socialization, become so functionally stupid.
I have never in my 33 years on this earth, ever been given a reasonable explanation as to why exactly T&A; on "skinimax" is harmful to anyone of any age. People become uncomfortable when I ask for an explanation. Some rattle off lame excuses, others become indignant and attack me for not "understanding" what they claim is obvious. Well in truth it is obvious. Our society attempts to play keep-away with children when it comes to these things because that is what our parents did, and their parents before them. The idea that such things are harmful is something that everyone is taught from a very early age. Most people don't question it, which is of course a very serious mistake. The way I see it, most people were not so much raised by their parents as brainwashed by them. Our society's attitude towards these things is simply an example of brainwashing that is highly uniform and does not vary much from person to person. These notions are no more valid than the idea that women are chattel.
