Seriously though, it's obvious that we need to refrain from any kind of regulation unless it's absolutely imperative, and it's not at this time. I, for one, don't trust this Congress to do much of anything right, so how are they supposed to come up with a positive plan for the Internet?

Re: Some Thoughts on the New Senate Telecom Reform Draft

My older brother is a big supporter of net neutrality and he gave me this website to "freshen up" on what's currently happening. I like NetChick's description of "smoke and mirrors" as that's what it so obviously is. Telecoms are sweating their Capitol Hill cronies to try and regulate the internet for pure greed and it's really disturbing. Period. The FCC needs to stay out of two areas: the internet and satellite radio!

Re: Some Thoughts on the New Senate Telecom Reform Draft

The proponents of net neutrality keep saying that there is aproblem, but I don't see one. I agree with this post that things in the market can be done to deal with issues as they arise, but government regulation is out of the question. The moment they are given the right to dictate policy,it can only get worse as more people call to them for help.

Re: Some Thoughts on the New Senate Telecom Reform Draft

I read this post when it originally came out and stumbled upon it again just recently. I am struck over and over again by just how fluid and successful the market can be when left to its own devices. No place serves as a better example than the internet. I truly hope that growth isn't destroyed by regulation and government interference.

Re: Some Thoughts on the New Senate Telecom Reform Draft

The net neutrality proponents cite the fact that in order to prioritize data for their tiered service plans, ISPs will have to monitor all the data traveling across their wires. But the proposed solution is to give the government the same (or more) latitude in monitoring Internet traffic and deciding where and how fast data can be sent. How people can so easily blind themselves to the threat NN regulation poses boggles the mind.

Re: Some Thoughts on the New Senate Telecom Reform Draft

I bet many people who are FOR net neut have no idea what is in this bill. It reeks of Big Brother when it speaks of the government monitoring us as we search websites in order to enforce the regulation. How creepy is that! There is no problem, there should be no regulation. Its all smoke and mirrors.

Re: Some Thoughts on the New Senate Telecom Reform Draft

Right on, love2Box...welcome to the light. :) The idea that to protect innovation we need to regulate it is absurd.

Re: Some Thoughts on the New Senate Telecom Reform Draft

I've been trying to get my head around this Net Neutrality issue and this is the second great posting from you all that puts it into terms even my grandmother can understand! I'm now set in my belief that government interference in the Internet will slowly destroy the wonderful technology we have at our finger tips! Thanks again!
