Private rating and enforcement efforts far surpass what we would see with government regulatory efforts. It is good to hear that the FTC's program continues to show progress. Good news for consumers and producers alike!

Re: latest FTC “secret shopper” survey shows improving ratings enforcement

A great point is made here. If a mystery shop program is in use, it should use a scenario that is truly happening. If the scenario is not legitimate, the results will follow suit. This is an interesting topic, and the initial results bring something to certainly think about.

Re: latest FTC “secret shopper” survey shows improving ratings enforcement

As I've said before, buying a game is harder than buying alcohol, which is absurd considering 1) alcohol age is mandatory, not voluntary and 2) alcohol consumption by kids actually might pose some conceivable risk to society unlike the playing video games. About the only way to buy a game without getting carded is to find a small, mom-and-pop game store, but even those are starting to card.

Re: latest FTC “secret shopper” survey shows improving ratings enforcement

This report is encouraging. Also, those are excellent points about how reports like this one come up a bit short in providing a full picture of things. I too hope others will look more favorably on the self-regulation we are seeing with video gaming.
