  • So... We're worried about Viacom having access to the cleaned-up, neutered YouTube data?

What about Google collecting all this highly-identifiable user data in the first place? That's far scarier to me.
  • Well the title of your post aptly sums up the dilemma facing Google. It seems their mantra of "no evil' is now on a slippery slope. But where do ordinary users stand in this court ruling?Viacom, Google/YouTube Flap Hits Slippery Slope(http://www.internetevolution.com/author.asp?section_id=565&doc_id=158450&F_src=flftwo)
  • Japhet, I understand your concern, but keep in mind that unlike Viacom, Google has a huge incentive to do its best to safeguard user data. And considering I've never heard of a data breach or accidental leak in Google's ten years of operation, I'd say they have done a pretty good job so far. Despite all the hackers and unscrupulous marketers out there who'd love a peek at Google's database, Google has kept our info safe and sound.

Plus, if Google misappropriates your data, that's excellent grounds to file a lawsuit for breach of contract. But it's not clear if you could sue Viacom for a leak of the YouTube logs, because there's no agreement between you and Viacom dictating the use of your personal data.
