Technology Liberation Front: Does TV Cause Violence Against Women? PTC’s “Women in Peril” Report

If they were truly outraged by this subject, they'd be campaigning aggressively against the way that fathers are portrayed on shows: bumbling, incompetent, immature, irresponsible, overweight @$$holes who have a smart, sexy, saint of a wife who can hit them, condescend to them and degrade them whenever she feels like it.

But as we all know, the PTC is the worst possible bastard child of liberalism and social conservatism. It's what happens when you give that annoying old church lady that no one really likes, and who is always campaigning for taking away someone's ability to have fun or making a federal case out of a minor moral incident, and giving her a lobbyist office in DC with millions in funding.

They don't care about the social issues behind any of this, and certainly not in an honest way. They just want to ruin it for everyone.

Wow - I wish we had funding like that, Mike. Adam, you correctly note that the PTC did not call for regulation - merely that the trend here was disturbing. You may put up all the charts and graphs you'd like, but that truth remains. We made no correlation between overall violent crime rates and the trends we have tracked on television content.

Further, it's simply incorrect to assert that the PTC wants to deprive you of any content whatsoever. You, among all people, have been unending in your praise of the media abundance that we enjoy. Thus, the PTC couldn't deprive you of all the blood and guts your heart may desire. The question is whether children are exposed to the types of content we all agree is inappropriate for them.

That's what parental authority is for.
