Just wondering if you contacted any of these companies for comment prior to dialoging about their business. By reading this, it seems the answer is "no." IMHO, in order to have an intelligent conversation about this issue some original research might first take place. Relying on France-based "reporters without borders" placed editorials for your information on this topic is, at best, lazy and, at worse, a disservice to your organizations and those who support your "work."

Stan, I've spoken to people at Google about their practices and, as I say in the piece, they haven't been very forthcoming.
Seems you went ahead and "dialogued" about our piece without doing any original research, a practice deleterious to intelligent conversation, IYHO.
If you disagree with some of our facts or assumptions, perhaps you'd like to say what your disagreements are. I dare say "lazy" applies to someone who takes potshots (that miss) but doesn't add any information or opinion.
